Materials:
Premo or Fimo in your choice of
holiday colors
1" pin back
razor or tissue blade and exact-o
blade
plain white paper
cutting mat or plexi-glass to work
on
brayer or acrylic rod
Pasta Machine (optional)
Basic Mitten Shape:
Knead your clay to make it soft
and roll it out on the thickest setting of your pasta machine,
cut in half and place on top of each other so that your clay is
double the thickness, roll with a brayer to remove any air
bubbles. Or use your brayer to roll your clay to about 1/8"
thick.
Place your clay unto the white
paper, which should be on your work surface.
Make a mitten template out of thin
cardboard or free-hand draw a mitten unto your clay with the tip
of your exact-o blade. My mittens are 1 1/2" long.
Cut out mitten with exact-o blade
and turn over, smooth out any edges with your fingers.

Mitten Designs:
Embellish as desired. You could
use simple cut outs of contrasting colors for the cuffs and tip
of the mittens or if you know how to make simple canes you can
prepare a few holiday inspired ones before hand. Some suggestions
are spirals and stripes. Here are the directions for those simple canes. Slice thin layers of your canes with a razor blade
and place them on your mitten. Gently roll with brayer to lightly
flatten your designs.
Finishing:
Turn clay over on it's front.
Place pin in the center of your mitten, gently press it into the
clay. Take a small piece of clay, roll it out on the thinnest
layer, cut into a small rectangle to fit over the pin back, a s
shown here. I use a headpin or another pin to score along the
edges to adhere the clays together. See example.
Bake following manufactures
directions. Happy Holidays!
